How to use bing indexnow api for better search console ?
While Google is the big player, ignoring Bing is like leaving free money on the table—especially since Bing powers other search engines like Yahoo and DuckDuckGo. The IndexNow API is the fastest way to tell Bing, "Hey, I just published something awesome, come look!"
Here is how to set it up in under five minutes.
Step 1: Generate Your API Key
Bing makes this incredibly easy. You don’t even need to create a complex cloud project.
-
Go to the Bing IndexNow Get Started page.
-
Scroll to the bottom of the page.
-
You will see a unique API Key generated for you.
-
Click the Download button to save the
.txtfile to your computer.
Step 2: Upload the Key to Your Server
To prove you own the website, you need to "host" this key file so Bing can verify it.
-
Open your website’s file manager (via cPanel, FTP, or your hosting dashboard).
-
Navigate to the public_html folder (the root directory of your site).
-
Drop the API key file you just downloaded into this folder.
How to verify it:
To make sure it’s working, type your URL followed by the file name into your browser:
https://yourwebsite.com/your-api-key-number.txt
If you see the key displayed as text on a white screen, you’re golden!
Step 3: Link the Key to Your Search Console
Now, you need to plug that key into your management tool to start sending URLs.
-
Open your dashboard (e.g., Better Search Console).
-
Go to Settings > Bing Section.
-
Paste your API Key into the designated field.
-
Click Save Settings.
Step 4: Blast Your Content to Bing
You are now ready to launch.
-
Manual Submission: In your page list, look for the Rocket icon. Clicking this will instantly push that specific URL to Bing’s index.
-
Speed is Key: IndexNow is designed for "real-time" updates. The moment you click that button, Bing is notified that your content is live and ready for traffic.
